Discover the village of Alex and its surrounding mountains.
In the spring of 1793, Alex was one of the focal points of the insurrection in the Thônes valley against the power of the Jacobin bourgeoisie. In August 1793, when Annecy in turn revolted against the Jacobins, the Comte d'Alex, who had been the town's first syndic, led the riot, spurred on by the population. Caught in an ambush, he was assassinated at Les Marquisats. The château was confiscated and sold as national property.
