Description

Enjoy the coolness of the woodland and take this historical route, used by the resistance fighters during the 2nd world war, which will take you to the magnificent waterfall of the Balme de Thuy.
During this pleasant walk without difficulties, discover the surroundings of the village of La Balme-de-Toy, gateway to the valley of Thônes located on the foothills of the Plateau des Glières. The route begins at an archaeological site: the Abri sous Roche. This prehistoric cave is also at the origin of the name of the village, the Balme-de-Thuy literally meaning "Rocky shelter located in Thuy". Not far from the banks of the Fier, the mostly wooden path leads you along the streams to the beautiful waterfall of Morette, aptly named "Nant Debout". Also take the time to discover the historic site of Morette, dedicated to the memory of the Haut-Savoyarde Resistance. The national necropolis bears witness to the Maquis past of the Plateau des Glières, of which the Departmental Museum of the Resistance nearby offers an enriching insight.
